Report from Hillarys Police Station
Since the 1 January 2022 there have been 6 reported Burglary offences in Kallaroo with offenders for 2 of these burglaries being charged. There is some comfort in the knowledge the offenders charged did not live in the area and were passing through the district and offences appear opportunistic rather than targeted.
In the same reporting period there has been 10 reports where offenders have broken into vehicles either on the front verge or in the driveways of houses. This is unfortunately a common offence across all suburbs and whilst we don’t like seeing any crime, this is not a big number by any means. Residents must be mindful of leaving property in their vehicles overnight. Unfortunately we can’t afford to leave anything in sight these days. There has been an increase across the metropolitan area in tools being taken from trades vehicles, so please keep this in mind for any tradespersons out there. Additionally please don’t leave wallets or handbags in vehicles.
All in all Kallaroo is a safe suburb with what I believe to be a low crime rate. I have noted concerns regarding hooning incidents in the past and have had our traffic units conducts patrols and radar actions through Kallaroo and surrounds. I believe this and interaction with the car club organisers has had a marked effect on the prevalence of this behaviour. With the deployment of the mobile cameras and some good results we should see a further reduction.
I encourage everyone to keep an eye out in their street for anything unusual and please report anything you think is not right. If you see something happening call 131 444 or if urgent 000. If you have any information on something that has already happened please report it to our Crime Stoppers number on 1800 333 000. We do not actively monitor facebook pages so anything reported on facebook to residents groups etc stays within that group, it doesn’t make it’s way to the police.
