Further to our Poll that showed 96% of people were happy with the 80 limit and 4% were happy with it changing to 70.
What we have found out so far:
Main Roads said “that the changes were to meet the ambitious target to reduce the number of people fatally, severely or seriously injured by 50-70% by 2030. To meet this target, Main Roads decided that speed limits through all signalised intersections in WA are to be reduced to 70km/h.”
As you might remember at the start of this it was only some of the intersections that had the 70 limit.
THEN
This found there was 28 speed changes along the length of Marion, so they then decided to rationalise the number of different speed limit sections along the 40km route to five:
- Section 1 – 70 km/h from Karrinyup Road to Toowoon Way (18.3 km)
- Section 2 – 80 km/h from Toowoon Way to Aviator Boulevard (2.5 km)
- Section 3 – 70 km/h from Aviator Boulevard to Brindabella Parkway (10.2 km)
- Section 4 – 80 km/h from Brindabella Parkway to Blackwood Meander (8.1 km)
- Section 5 – 60 km/h from Blackwood Meander to Yanchep Beach Rd (1 km)
This has now resulted in what we have today..
Main Roads are saying that the review found that these changes will provide a more consistent speed limit and are not expected to impact journey times significantly with less than three minutes added to a pre-change journey along the entire 40km length of Marmion Avenue.
We will continue to work with Main Roads and our Local member
