Save the Local Trees You Love!

Do you love the trees in Kallaroo? A great initiative from the West Coast Wilderness Group.

Do you know those big old beautiful street trees that make your suburb really special? We need them now more than ever. As we’re losing more trees to development and clearing, and noticing the impacts of climate change, they are more important to our wellbeing and our local wildlife than ever before. You can help protect verge/street trees that sit on land owned or managed by the City of Joondalup by submitting a nomination to the Significant Tree Register today.

Your nominated tree (or stand/avenue of trees) needs to meet at least one of the following criteria:
– Outstanding visual/aesthetic significance
– Botanic/scientific significance
– Significant ecological value
– Historical, commemorative, cultural and social significance

Go to joondalup.wa.gov.au/kb/resident/significant-trees to find out more.

Registering online is quick and easy, but you may need the help of Google or a local tree expert to identify the species (you’ll need the common and latin name eg. tuart, Eucalyptusgomphocephala), as well as the trunk diameter (in meters) and the estimated age and height.

If you need a little extra help, send a message via Facebook to @westcoastwildernessgroup with the exact location of your chosen tree and any other info you have. The West Coast Wilderness Group members are happy to assist with research and online registration for your trees.

By taking this small action online, together we can all help protect our local wildlife habitats and the wellbeing of our community too.
