Hooning Camera

Prior to the 2021 State Elections, committee members from our Residents Association met with the candidates for our area, along with officers from Hillarys Police Stations, to discuss the issue of honing. At that meeting, Caitlin Collins, the Labor candidate pledged $150,000 towards the purchase of traffic cameras should she be elected.

True to her word, upon her election Caitlin liaised with the City of Joondalup and handed over the funds to purchase these cameras.  We waited with bated breath for “our” new camera to be installed and looked forward to the Thursday night racetrack being a thing of the past. Sadly the Council chose a different location for the first trial and the second and third trial and we lost count of its locations after that.

However, in 2024 the camera was finally installed at the western end of Whitfords Ave and there was a noted decrease in hooning along Whitfords Ave.Thank you to Caitlin and the Police at Hillarys for your perseverance in securing the camera for Whitfords Ave.

The camera has now been moved to a different location as was the original plan. Unfortunately, word has gotten round that the camera has been moved so we are back to Whitfords Ave being used as a racetrack.  It was good while it lasted!
