The community should be aware the spraying advisory signage will no longer be displayed for 24-hours.
In July 2020 after complaints about adverse reactions from pets to spraying in parks the Council agreed to leave Glyphosate Advisory Signage out for 24 hours following spraying.
In May 2021 the Council changed that decision back to 2 hours or until dry with no notice or full consultation of the community.
Last month we contacted our members via email and a facebook poll asking if they preferred 24-hour signage. 33% of our members responded and all but 1 would like the reassurance of 24-hour signage.
Following recent questions at the Council meeting regarding the cost of signage we have been informed that the costs to maintain 24 hrs signage for Kallaroo residents is between 8 cents and 10 cents per head per year.
At the July Council meeting Councillor Raftis from the South West Ward proposed that 24-hour advisory signage should be reintroduced. Our Chairperson reported our members feedback and that 24-hour signage was supported.
As Councillor Poliwka, Chester, Raftis and Thompson expressed signage is a peace of mind issue allowing residents to have a choice.
Unfortunately returning to 24-hour signage was not supported by the following Councillors and 2-hour or until dry will remain:
Mayor Albert Jacob
Cr Kerry Hollywood
Cr Tom McLean
Cr Nige Jones
Cr Christopher May
Cr John Logan
Cr Christine Hamilton-Prime
The Mayor tells us that we now need to wait for the review of the Weed Management Plan sometime later in the year before signage will be considered again.
